CSAC remembers Syd Gibbs

Coventry Sub Aqua Club was sorry to hear about the loss of another former Chairman of the club and honorary member, Sydney “Syd” Gibbs, in April this year.

Syd joined our club in 1972, qualifying as what was then called a BSAC Third Class Diver the following year. Over the next few decades, he went on several club dive trips, such as the club’s first venture to the Red Sea in 1981, and organised other trips around the UK and abroad himself.

Syd held several roles on our club’s committee, including Diving Officer between 1979 and 1980 and Chairman between 1981 and 1982.

Club members attended a ceremony for Syd at the Canley Crematorium on 25th May. He is survived by his wife Margaret, son Barry and daughter Karen.

Coventry Sub Aqua Club has sent a letter to SCUBA Magazine to commemorate Syd.
